There is a great Children and Young People network of services in
Powys, that include stautory health and social services, and voluntary support groups that can help in a variety of issues.
There are youth forums, clubs, orchestras, and action groups.
Our main concern is to help young people to access new and innovative
ways to learning and earning. We offer social skills and pre-work skills learning courses, and help to develop individual
plans towards learning and earning that fit the pesons learning approach. One way is to offer a variety of short
work placements throughout Europe that cover a variety of careers. These are a great opportunity to get some cultural
experience, tick some vocational learning boxes, and add in to curriculum vitaes.
We also signpost young people to other services that are better
designed to help with specific issues, and we can provide a young or older advocate if necessary. During the last year
we have helped directly with concerns around young pregnancy, abuse, cyberbullying, stress of exams, mental ill-health, food,
and family breakdown. Our approach is to listen to concerns and help to develop a way of sorting them out.
This work is done in complete confidence, so that we respect (within law) the wishes of each individual.
Currently a consultation process is underway that will influence
and direct the opening and running of a Centre for Young People in Welshpool. We need to know from the people who will
use the Centre what the facility will house, and how it will be constituted and developed. Young people from North Powys
are being asked for their comments and involvement. This exciting initiative is being developed by young people, for
young people.
Anyone who has anything to add to this consultation process can email us at welcome@siawnsteg.co.uk . Your comments will be valued and included, and if you want feedback, please ask. Likewise if you
prefer not to be named please ask, and your request and confidentiality will be respected.
