The specific groups we work with are:
Young people seeking a safe
environment for socialising and gaining practical experience towards transition from schooling to community inclusion.
We are developing an activity centre based on the thoughts and ideas of young people in North Powys. We organise work
experience placements with similar organisations in different countries, and are expanding the variety of opportunities
this cultural experience provides. We are developing learning sets for young people that will assist them to understand
and practice the skills necessary to run a social enterprise. We are increasingly being approached by young people stressed
by many issues including exams, relationships, money, and cyberbullying. We signpost these needs to other service providers,
and support individuals to develop personal strategies.
Migrant families who find it difficult to
access services because of cultural and language differences. We provide advocacy and signposting support on
a one-2-one basis with service providers in education, health, housing, policing, and voluntary agencies involved with integration
and cohesion issues. We also provide language interpretation and translation services to providers who may find it difficult
to gain clear information from migrant families. There has been an increasing number of instances of unemployed
migrant workers recently (since October 2008), and this has raised the volume of enquiries to our shop front. We are
developing learning sessions around work search and diversity skills for employers and potential employees.
People wishing
to get back to work, or are new to the workplace environment, and need to develop the skills and confidence to take
the leap. Our experience is in supporting people with mental distress, long term unemployed, and people with learning
difficulties. We have developed pre-work training courses and coping strategies specifically for our client groups,
and course attendees tell us that our social enterprise start up training and advice mechanisms are a valuable pathway to
work.
Where do we provide these services?
We work from our office in Welshpool, and we also rent rooms as required for
training and meetings throughout Powys, and work within organisations to deliver Diversity and Cultural Awareness learning
sessions. We are actively seeking a building in North Powys for our clients, and will partner with a variety of other
organisations to make this innovative project happen.
