We were established in October 2005 following a year of research and planning around issues we felt important.
Anyone living in Powys will recognise some of the problems faced in trying to get around the county. The
distance from Bristol to London is about the same as from the North to the South of Powys, but the roads, rail and other transport
opportunities are weak. For anyone in work, or who has an appointment to keep, the cost in time, money and resources
needed to travel around has a real impact on daily living.
Now consider how people with additional needs fare! Their situation is compounded by ill health, disability,
lack of support network, and usually less money than some to get the whole thing done.
We have established that people with compounded difficulties in being a part of their Powys communities need
some extra support. We will support anyone who is, or believes they are, excluded from being actively involved in local
community initiatives, however we concentrate on two groups. These are firstly young people in transition from full
time education to life in the local community, and secondly people from other cultures with different languages who need
to integrate into their Powys communities.
We have a small staff team and a group of volunteers who provide governance of our charitable community organisation,
advocacy support for our clients, training in life skills and cultural awareness, and a valuable resource for the numerous
service providers who need linguistic and cultural direction.
Please see our other pages for more detailed information on our services.

We have a simple business philosophy.
We use tried and tested private sector business principles, that deliver cost effective and wanted 'products',
in a voluntary sector environment.
Putting that into practice is more difficult! Our prime concern is for people, and we are totally aware
that by keeping people valued and supported, with opportunity to reach their chosen potential, we will suceed in our aims.
At the same time our 'product' has limited financial value. Providing people with skills, knowledge and value cannot
be invoiced back to us in monetory terms, and so we gain our achievements in the value we provide for the community which,
along with the individuals we support, are the main beneficaries from our efforts.
From 2004 to 2007 we were a partner in an exciting and innovative project called Powys Equals Partnership.
Partners from all sectors and disciplines worked to research and test ideas around valuing people who have a lived experience
of triumph against stigma and exclusion away from the workplace. As the partner responsible for finding
and working through our agenda with other EU countries we came into contact with groups in very different and complex situations,
and it was this experience that has motivated us to support cultural groups in Powys.
VISION STATEMENT
We aim to improve opportunities for anyone who is, or believes they are,
excluded from work, social inclusion, and community worth. We work to support our clients to be active and valued
community members and better placed to access social interactions and work. We
will achieve this through the provision of social and pre-work learning, cultural awareness initiatives, community valued
activities, and the promotion of equality for all agendas.
